Interesting flower arrangements with phlox

Phlox compositions for your garden

Probably, no one will argue that flower beds are the best decoration for a garden. A beautiful flower garden is the pride of the owner and the envy of the neighbors.

Creative passion encourages us to look for new varieties, experiment with color and shape, achieving harmony. Successful solutions come with experience. At the same time, one of the keys to success is the use of plants that are resistant to our climate.

Let's try to arrange a small flower garden based on phlox. We select supplementary plants taking into account the requirements for growing conditions. Phlox are moisture-loving, demanding on soil fertility and lighting. Companion plants should feel good under the same conditions. The structure of the root system of plants should also be taken into account so that some do not overwhelm others.

A small flower garden, about 2.5 m long and up to 1.5 m wide, can be placed near the gazebo, the walls of the house, against the background of a group of shrubs, etc. The composition of plants for him will be different depending on the illumination of the site. Between perennials, small-bulbous ones can be planted - crocuses, chionodoxu, in groups of 10-15 bulbs.

Let's trace the seasonal changes in one of the flower garden options. At the end of April, Chionodoxa Lucilia blooms with light blue flowers. Then, in May, for 2-3 weeks, late hybrid crocus varieties bloom - white Janna d`Arc and yellow Yellow Queen. Blood-red geranium Alba begins to bloom in June, its neat bushes with graceful carved foliage and a cloud of white flowers adorn the flower garden throughout the summer.

The lightness and airiness of geranium bushes is an expressive contrast with the dense "porcelain" inflorescences of spotted phlox. Alpha and Omega varieties bloom at the end of June. The freshness of the white and cold pink color of these varieties is emphasized by the rich purple-pink color of the phlox Carolina Magnificence.

In July, these colors will be supplemented with a cloud of white-pink flowers of the Loddon Anna milk-flowered bell and the deep wine-red color of Clematis Stasik. Its height is 1.5 m, the support can be lower.

In August, the white-lilac phlox paniculata Hans Wollmoller blooms, followed by the lilac Lavandelwolke. Tall bushes of these varieties will need a garter, but it will not be noticeable in the background of the flower garden. The green fountain of asparagus in September is decorated with red "fruits", geranium leaves are colored with shades of red. On a site in light partial shade:

- Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa)- Alpine prince (Atragene alpine).
- the same milk-flowered bell.
- paniculate phlox, tall varieties. Medium flowering varieties are preferred. In conditions of partial shading, late flowering varieties will bloom only in September. Blush Girls, Ruslan, Moskovskie Zori and others - 2-3 bushes will do.
- phlox paniculate medium-sized varieties, for example, Success, Heaven, Lyubasha and others - 3 bushes.
- paniculate phlox with a low compact bush. These are the varieties Apple Blossom, Pearl, Svyatogor and others - 2-3 bushes.
- varieties of Astilbe Japanese Fanal, Montgomery (Astilbe japonica Fanal, Montgomery), Astilbe Arends Etna, Sister Teresa (A.arendsii Etna, Sister Theresa) and others. Only 7-8 bushes. For early spring flowering, woodlands, snowdrops are suitable. They are also planted in groups of 10-15 bulbs.

In this case, the flower garden can be like this: in May, the Siberian Spring Beauty blooms (sometimes it is found under the name Scilla sibirica f.major). This variety is distinguished by non-sticking peduncles. In June, the Alpine prince blooms profusely with pink or blue flowers.

In July, the early varieties of phlox Heaven (white) in the middle of the flower garden and Svyatogor (red-crimson) in the foreground make up a bright pair. This contrast is softened by the delicate creamy foam of Sister Theresa astilba inflorescences and the white or light lilac shape of the milk-flowered bell. In August, tall phloxes will bloom in the background of the flower garden. Monomakh's cap is purple-violet and Elfenkenig is white with a pink tint.

From mid-August, a medium-sized (up to 80 cm) phlox Russian Beauty - pink with a crimson eye and crimson edges of the petals - will be added to them. Two compact, strong shrubs of this variety will give the impression of a large elegant bouquet in the middle of the flower garden. At the same time, black cohosh begins to bloom with white "candles". In September, the bloom of black cohosh, late phlox continues, and the prince is decorated with silvery fluffy seedlings.

Both options for flower beds provide for a well-treated soil filled with organic and mineral fertilizers. Care comes down to the usual operations - weeding, watering, feeding. All plants used respond well to mulching. Only clematis will need winter shelter.

The choice of perennials for a flower garden with phlox, of course, is not limited to the listed species and varieties. In positions 1 and 2, you can use straight clematis (Clematis recta f. Atropurpurea), buzulniki, veronicastrum; instead of bells in position 3, you can plant several Astrantia bushes (Astrantia major varieties), large cornflowers.

Positions 7 can be occupied by cereal iris (Iris graminea), low Veronics, for example, the Baby Doll variety, in the sun, or Brunnera macrophylla Looking Glass, etc.), Heuchera x gybr., In light partial shade. If you need to "bend" such a flower garden, for example, to make a turn of the path, then the number of plants in positions 6 and 7 will increase.

The color scheme in the proposed composition is a matter of taste for the owner of the garden. Varieties and types of geraniums have flowers of the most varied colors: white, pink, blue, crimson, purple, violet, often with a contrasting eye or strokes. Also, the choice of astilba varieties is very wide - from pale pink and white to deep saturated garnet-red and violet-purple tones. These plants can be matched with phlox, or by contrast.

Likewise, phloxes can be arranged in different ways. Someone more like contrasting color combinations, someone - smooth transitions of close tones (see photo). There is another interesting possibility - a monochrome flower garden (white, pink, purple). The variety of phlox varieties and their neighbors in the flower garden provides a lot of opportunities for another creative experiment.

Porcelain flowers are a real miracle created by Vladimir Kanevsky. He comes from Kharkov. Today the sculptor lives and works in New Jersey (America). He creates not just artificial flowers, but whole flower arrangements from porcelain. The master says that he very painstakingly selects colors to make his works look as if they are alive. Initially, he tries to draw a sketch of the future composition on a computer, and only then, after analysis, begins to translate the idea into practice.

Metal rods are used as the material for the stems, for porcelain is a rather fragile material for this.

Beautiful spring compositions from fresh flowers. Photo

Good afternoon dear friends!

Over the past week, the seasons have probably changed several times everywhere, now rain, then snow, then spring, then winter again.

But still, spring is already coming into its own. And together with her I want a spring mood and something new and at home.

The feeling of novelty will be created by new handmade decorative elements. Try yourself in something new.

Let's create spring flower arrangements?

For example, I never had to create compositions from fresh flowers, except perhaps I tried to make compositions from cacti.

But now we are not talking about them, but about living garden flowers. Of course, you can just put flowers in a vase. But this is corny. Spring flower arrangements will revive our interior, fill the house with a special atmosphere. Especially on a festive table, they will look wonderful, whereas flowers in tall vases can simply get in the way.

You can also entrust florists with composing flower arrangements, but it is interesting to try to do it yourself. Can't you? Let's learn by looking at the photo. I think these ideas are pretty simple to implement.

How to make a flower arrangement

Cutting the stems of flowers

Flowers can be cut in your garden or in the country, just about - tulips are about to bloom, you can make wonderful beautiful compositions from them. Well, you can buy it if you don't have your own flowers.

And literally today my first tulips have blossomed.

We brought the flowers home, immediately place them in a bucket of water and cut off the stems a little.

The stems should be cut in water without fail. If you do this outdoors, the air will be sucked into the stems, creating an air lock. It will be difficult for the plant to drink water and it will die faster.

You need to cut the stem at an oblique angle using a sharp knife. Scissors are not recommended as they can crush the stem and result in worse water absorption.

Exceptions are woody stems such as those of lilacs. They just need to be crushed a little, split.

After the stems are cut, we leave the flowers in the water until we work with them. It is advisable to leave it in a cool place.

Containers for flower arrangements in the interior

Anything at your fingertips will do to create beautiful spring flower arrangements.

These can be small vases, glasses, jars, cups, bottles, flasks, jugs, baskets, even breadbaskets.

An original flower arrangement can be made even in old shoes or an umbrella!

Let's just make some effort, connect imagination and make a small simple decor for the selected container. For example, let's attach paper butterflies. And not necessarily such openwork. You can cut and make double butterflies even from the remnants of wallpaper. The templates are here.

Arrange spring flowers in a refreshing color scheme, such as pink or paired with vibrant blue.

Another cheerful spring flower arrangement - you just need to wrap small cylindrical transparent vases with patterned paper and put yellow flowers in them.

A very light, spring flower arrangement on the table can be made by arranging simple bottles and jars with small twigs.

Several colors are all you need to fill your coffee cup. Yellow daffodils, pansies and a willow twig on a yellow tableware background - a wonderful beautiful spring composition.

Small lilies of the valley look great in beautiful porcelain cups. Look in your cupboards, for sure you have a lot of dishes that are standing idle.

A wonderful lilac composition can be created from lilac flowers, fruits and small bunches of mint, placing it on a straw napkin - a path.

To create a composition in a low, wide vessel, make an impromptu lid from the glued strips of duct tape. Pre-fill the bowl with water. In the resulting cells on the lid, you can insert flowers one at a time.

Food coloring can be used not only to paint Easter eggs, but also to create beautiful flower arrangements.

To do this, fill vessels of different sizes (vases, jars) with water tinted in different colors. We place blue flowers in blue water, yellow flowers in yellow water. Or you can use white flowers, such as chamomile. Such a composition will simply sparkle and shine.

Take colorful bright baby boots in a color that matches tulips or other spring flowers. A beautiful ribbon will create a special accent.

And this is a vase - a statement! Fresh carrots in a transparent vase will create a bold spring composition.

Original flower arrangements with fruits and Easter eggs

I met such a composition with lemons on Pinterest.

What I like about this site is that the pictures and photos stored on it tend to multiply by new similar ideas.

So I got a collection of photo compositions of flowers, and I also learned how to create such compositions with sliced fruits.

We need two vessels, one wider and higher, and the other smaller - an ordinary glass or jar, it can even look completely unsightly, it will not be visible anyway.

We insert the smaller vessel into the larger one. Fill a large jar with sliced citrus slices, placing them around the glass.

We fill the glass with water and put flowers in it.

A similar composition can be made with Easter eggs. In my opinion, a delightful idea for the upcoming holiday.

Myth number 2. Phloxes are not used by foreign garden designers

Not true! Phloxes are widely used not only in Russia, but also in many other countries, and in gardens of different styles. For example, in John Brooks' garden, nepeta is planted in front of phloxes, and daylilies are planted next to them. In England, in Great Dixter, tall mulleins with Bonar verbena grow in front of the topiary, and phloxes knock out these plantings. In Holland, phlox are very popular in small gardens.

In the Beth Shatto garden, a large clump (about 25 bushes) of white-pink phlox of three varieties is located in front of the loosestrife, and in front of them grow oregano and incense. In the Botanical Gardens in Kew, tall white phlox looks great next to annuals - white wood tobacco and Bonar verbena and perennial barnacles, in front of them grow a large blue erythroat and Mexican mint, and in tamping - a small-flowered Bourget erythrope.
